The origins of Data centre are the “special environments’ created for main frame computers. Where power and cooling could be managed and maintain. They were also a place of high security.

Apart for the revolution in microprocessors the same basic requirements still apply. Uninterrupted power supply, controlled environment by maintain the temperature, and very high security.
